Odessa Regional Medical Center Receives HealthGrades 2007/2008 Maternity Care Excellence Award

Representatives from Healthgrades will present Odessa Regional Medical Center staff and physicians with the HealthGrades 2007/2008 Maternity Care Excellence Award at a reception scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 29th in the ORMC East Campus Auditorium. ORMC is the only healthcare provider in Mid-Western Texas to receive a 5-star rating for clinical excellence in maternity care two years in a row from HealthGrades, the nation’s leading source for independent healthcare quality information. The HealthGrades study also found that ORMC ranks in the Top 10% in the nation for maternity services.
The 2007/2008 HealthGrades programmatic ratings for maternity care are based on the following criteria: in-hospital complication rates associated with vaginal and cesarean deliveries, in-hospital volume, neonatal mortality, and complication rates for non-indicated or patient choice cesarean sections.
For its 2007/2008 ratings, HealthGrades independently analyzed the quality of maternity care for more than 1,440 hospitals across 17 states that make this information publicly available, objectively assessing their clinical performance and quality over the three-year period from 2004-2006. The four criteria measured were weighted using predetermined weights based on the consensus from a physician’s panel.
Five Star – Best – Top 15% of all hospitals within 17 states
Three Star – Average – Middle 70% of all hospitals within 17 states
One Star – Poor – Bottom 15% of all hospitals within 17 states
Receiving a 5-Star designation indicates a hospital has scored in the Top 15% or better in the nation for clinical quality.
