ORMC Receives 5-Stars for Maternity Care from Healthgrades
June 25, 2007 - Odessa Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce that it is the only healthcare provider in Mid-Western Texas receive a 5-star rating for clinical excellence in maternity care from HealthGrades, the nation’s leading source for independent healthcare quality information. In addition, ORMC ranked in the Top 15% of hospitals in the nation for maternity care, and has been recognized with the HealthGrades 2006/2007 Maternity Care Excellence Award™.
The 2006/2007 HealthGrades programmatic ratings for maternity care are based on the following criteria: in-hospital complication rates associated with vaginal and cesarean deliveries, in-hospital volume, neonatal mortality, and complication rates for non-indicated or patient choice cesarean sections.
For its 2006/2007 ratings, HealthGrades independently analyzed the quality of maternity care for more than 1,400 hospitals across 17 states that make this information publicly available, objectively assessing their clinical performance and quality over the three-year period from 2002-2004. The four criteria measured were weighted using predetermined weights based on the consensus from a physician’s panel.
“Receiving a 5-Star rating from Healthgrades is quite an honor, ORMC CEO Matthew Roberts said. “We worked hard to create the area’s premier birthplace, and we are very pleased with this recognition.”
The ratings are broken down as follows:
Five Star – Best – Top 15% of all hospitals within 17 states
Three Star – Average – Middle 70% of all hospitals within 17 states
One Star – Poor – Bottom 15% of all hospitals within 17 states
Receiving a 5-Star designation indicates a hospital has scored in the Top 15% or better in the nation for clinical quality.
“Each year, HealthGrades assesses hospital quality and published every hospital’s ratings online,” explained Samantha Collier, HealthGrades’ vice president of medical affairs. “Three million people visit healtgrades.com each month in order to determine the hospitals in their communities that provide the highest quality care. Women in Mid-Western Texas should be aware of the information available regarding healthcare quality and the outstanding recognition received by Odessa Regional Medical Center maternity care,” Collier added.
The complete maternity care ratings are published, free of charge, on the Healthgrades website, www.healthgrades.com. Ratings for 28 other medical procedures and diagnoses – including cardiac, pulmonary, vascular, stroke, orthopedics, critical care and gastrointestinal services are also available on the HealthGrades website.
