Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Medical Director Receives Patients’ Choice Award

Odessa Regional Medical Center is proud to announce Dr. Sanjay Patel, ORMC Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Medical Director, has been honored by his patients with a 2008 Patients’ Choice Award.
Every month more than 40,000 patients rate the effectiveness of their physicians online at www.vitals.com. Of the nations 720,000 active physicians, less than five percent were awarded this honor by their patients in 2008.
Patients rate the physicians in areas such as bedside manner, amount of time spent with them, courtesy of staff, appropriate follow-up, and their overall opinion of the physician.
Dr. Patel moved to Odessa to serve as the NICU Medical Director at ORMC in January 2004. Over the last five years, Dr. Patel has added new technology to the unit such as nitric oxide therapy and head cooling, and he has worked to expand the unit from 25 to 33 beds to serve more premature infants in the Permian Basin.
Dr. Patel is also involved with the local chapter of the March of Dimes, serving as a board member and also as the March of Dimes Walk for Babies 2009 Chairman.
